In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth - and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters - Then God said: Let there be light, and there was light.
Whenever I start a new hobby or a task at work that I haven't done before I tend to get frustrated if I can't get it right the first time. My logical brain knows that deciding to do something doesn't make me automatically good at it. But the rest of me wants to be an instant success every time.
The same can be said for our spiritual walk. Just because I want to be a good Christ follower doesn't mean I am going to be an instant saint. But as Fr. Felipe says "No one is born a saint. It's something you have to become." In our first reading today we see that even God didn't create everything in an instant. He carefully crafted each part of creation one step at a time. As you continue your journey through this world don't be discouraged if you feel that you are not perfect. You are. It's just that God hasn't finished creating you yet.
