1 John 4:16

We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.

Love may be one of the most misunderstood concepts. Too many see love as a kind of affection or feeling. The love that God calls us to show to others is more than that. It is a consuming desire for the good of the other. It goes beyond sentimentality. One the most poignant quotes I've ever heard about love, aside from what's in Scripture, is one from Dr. Peter Kreeft, "Love fights. Ask any parent". Sometimes the desire for the other's good can bring us into conflict with the world and with people. Jesus was at odds with the powerful because of His love for us and that led to the Crucifixion. Lord, let us truly love others today.
