Glass That's Half Empty or Full?

Saturday, December 29, 2018 • Elle
Why are New Year's Resolutions challenging? Is your proverbial glass half empty or half full?

Luke 2:29-32

"Lord, now let your servant go in peace;
your word has been fulfilled:
my own eyes have seen the salvation
which you prepared in the sight of every people,
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel."

Why are New Year's Resolutions challenging? Is your proverbial glass half empty or half full? Do you see the new year as an opportunity or as just another set of days, months, years?  As I reflect on these well known Gospel verses, Simeon was so excited to see the infant Jesus at His presentation in the temple, that Simeon had this prayer to God!  All of this came to fruition because of Mary's "yes".   What if Mary had wavered and waited?

It is so easy to turn on a movie, or spend time on our cell phones, but is that a way of wavering or waiting in our own lives?  New Year's Day is a holy day in the Church, so it is a good day for us to spend time to consider or even reconsider how we are called and gifted by God, and our role in His divine plans.
