In Haste, the Floors Can Wait

Friday, December 21, 2018 • Elle
I wonder how many little errands Mary left behind as she traveled in haste to go see Elizabeth, her cousin?

Luke 1:39-40

Mary set out in those days
and traveled to the hill country in haste
to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah
and greeted Elizabeth.

I wonder how many little errands Mary left undone as she traveled in haste to go see Elizabeth, her cousin?  My point is not whether Mary swept the floors before she left, but that in her response to the urgency of God's call, to the excitement of visiting Elizabeth, she left in haste.  She could have waited to leave until after she finshed tidying up everything, and making sure her all of her errands and chores were all done.  But that was not God's timing. Mary followed God's timing.

When we get caught up in the little chores, we can become weighed down with all of them.  Either there is no particular order to them, or when we try to get them all out of the way, well, the list begins again.  It seems endless, and next thing we know, we have missed an opportunity to take some moments to pray, gather our thoughts, to remember our loved ones.  Let's visit someone today, spontaneously take a few minutes to chat, and take a few moments to pray for a holy and blessed Christmas season.  The floors can wait.
