"Do you believe that I can do this?"
"Yes, Lord," they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
"Let it be done for you according to your faith."
When my son got his new eye glasses I enjoyed watching him see his world in a whole new way! He commented about how clear everything was, how pretty the bay water looked, and how he could read the street signs from so far away. He noticed so much more about the everyday world around him. I think of this when I read these scriptures, as Jesus cured the blind and gave them the gift of sight. What colors they must have seen, and what details that were always around them, but that they had been unable to discern while blind.
Even if we have 20/20 vision, we can be "blinded" by indifference, or apathy, unaware of the needs of those right in our communities. May we ask Jesus today for the gift of renewed vision as we continue our Advent journey in faith.
