Uprooting Acorn Plants

Saturday, November 24, 2018 • Elle
As I walked along under some oak trees, I noticed the sound of the acorns crunching under my feet

2 Tm 1:10 (Alleluia verse)

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death
and brought life to light through the Gospel.

As I walked along under some oak trees, I noticed the sound of the acorns crunching under my feet.  Unruly acorns that plant themselves among my plants, have roots that will grow very very deep, and if I ignore them, it is a struggle to uproot them with my bare hands.  So I must say I wondered about smashing those acorns with my feet, and I compared that to the struggle I have with certain temptations in my life, where I don't want roots to grow into bad habits that will be difficult to uproot.  At that moment, I crunched acorns as I walked, and remembered how many times I have hurt my hands trying to pull up an acorn oak plant growing in the middle of my other bushes in the springtime.

This verse reminds me that I am not alone in the struggle, because Jesus has destroyed death, conquered sin, and brought life to light through His life, His way.  As I walk along my path, either when it's just the acorns are crunching under my feet, or when I am truly struggling with this or that decision, Jesus has shown me the way and shone His light on my paths if I but stop to reflect on the Gospel messages and His words for me.
