And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him. Luke 5:28
Levi, the tax collector left behind everything to follow Jesus. It is an interesting comparison to the young man who obeyed all the commandments, but who would not leave everything to follow Jesus. (Mark 10:21-22) That young man went away "sad, for he had many posessions." Levi threw a banquet!
Jesus will reach our hearts right where we are, whether we are fasting or feasting, feeling sad or joyful. It is because Jesus knows our hearts and our intentions. Through this Lenten journey, let's take a few extra moments daily to recognize that Jesus walks before us, opening new doors for us, and He walks with us. If we pray for the grace to let our daily problems become opportunities we can learn something from, instead of stumbling blocks that trip up on or even hide behind, then we will follow Jesus with the heart of Levi.
Question for Reflection:
What are the problems I have that prevent me from being focused on the love that Jesus has for me?
Jesus, your holy wisdom is sufficient enough to bring some good out of every one of my problems.
