A couple of coupons promise big savings from Lowe's and Bed, Bath, and Beyond but beware. They're bogus!

A $75 off coupon for Bed, Bath, and Beyond can look like a real blessing to anyone hoping to snag a deeply discounted gift for Mother's Day but alas... it's too good to be true. The chain took to Facebook to share the disappointing news:
Lowe's is also dealing with fallout from a similar counterfeit coupon offering $50 off:

CBS News recently posted a story about these false offers (plus, scary info about those "10 Concert" posts) and provided helpful tips for spoting them, from Facebook:
  1. If you suspect a post is fake, whether you simply believe it is false or click through it and notice something seems off, report the actual post to Facebook so the company can learn more about it.
  2. If you click on one of these posts and realize it's not real, exit the page. Be wary of pages that ask you for credentials, and never put in personal information on sites that pop up unexpectedly.
Got any tips on steering clear of the scammers? Let us know in the comments!

In an effort to keep our kids safe, we often tell them to not talk to strangers. But Pattie Fitzgerald says teaching little ones to look out for "tricky people" instead is more practical and effective.

For a long time, "don't talk to strangers" was one of the most prominant and universally accepted bits of advice offered to kids. That gave way to its easier to remember two word summary: "stranger danger". Pattie Fitzgerald, of Safely Ever After takes issue with the principle. She tells TODAY Parents...
"Most of the time, kids are learning 'stranger danger,' which is cute and it rhymes, but isn't really effective,"
She favors teaching children to watch out for what she calls "tricky people".
"'Tricky people' is certainly more effective because most strangers are not dangerous…kids think a stranger is going to be somebody who is kind of scary looking or scary sounding, but statistically, if someone wants to harm a child they are not going to appear scary, they're going to be charming, have an enticing offer, and seem friendly."
So if the people kids are supposed to avoid are by definition tricky, how do our little ones identify them? Pattie's method encourages children to evaluate the person's behavior and how they feel in about it.
"I tell kids to ask if what they're doing gives them a 'thumbs up' feeling or a 'thumbs down' feeling," said Fitzgerald.
She also has a pretty good rule of thumb for kids when dealing with adults.
"We teach kids to be nice and helpful, but kids need to know when it's OK to help and when it's not. One of the safety rules I suggest is that safe adults never ask kids for help. If someone tells a kid, 'I can't find my pet,' or 'I need help carrying something to my car,' for example, that's a thumbs down until you ask first — until you check with your safe adult."
Email me and let me know what you think. Should we teach Fitzgerald's "tricky people" method over "stranger danger"?

Abby and Fernando got to catch up with Colton and his wife Annie on the Big Big House Morning Show today. He even played a couple of songs from his latest album live!

Artist visits are always a lot of fun but this one was especially awesome because we got to share it with a group of great Spirit FM listeners. Studio 5 isn't exactly Amalie Arena so we couldn't host a very large group but thankfully, through the wonder of radio, we got to share the whole experience with thousands throughout Tampa Bay and beyond. Scroll down to listen to (or watch) the interview and performances...

Check out this beautifully produced reflection on Good Friday. The words are from a sermon originally preached by S.M. Lockridge and the video was produced by the talented folks at Igniter Media.

S.M. Lockridge's sermon paired with Igniter Media's visuals and Pastor John L. Jefferson's voiceover work make for a one powerful reflection! Check out the full text of the sermon below and scroll all the way down to check out the video...
It's Friday
Jesus is praying
Peter's a sleeping
Judas is betraying
But Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
Pilate's struggling
The council is conspiring
The crowd is vilifying
They don't even know
That Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
The disciples are running
Like sheep without a shepherd
Mary's crying
Peter is denying
But they don't know
That Sunday's a comin'
It's Friday
The Romans beat my Jesus
They robe him in scarlet
They crown him with thorns
But they don't know
That Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
See Jesus walking to Calvary
His blood dripping
His body stumbling
And his spirit's burdened
But you see, it's only Friday
Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
The world's winning
People are sinning
And evil's grinning
It's Friday
The soldiers nail my Savior's hands
To the cross
They nail my Savior's feet
To the cross
And then they raise him up
Next to criminals
It's Friday
But let me tell you something
Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
The disciples are questioning
What has happened to their King
And the Pharisees are celebrating
That their scheming
Has been achieved
But they don't know
It's only Friday
Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
He's hanging on the cross
Feeling forsaken by his Father
Left alone and dying
Can nobody save him?
It's Friday
But Sunday's comin'
It's Friday
The earth trembles
The sky grows dark
My King yields his spirit
It's Friday
Hope is lost
Death has won
Sin has conquered
and Satan's just a laughin'
It's Friday
Jesus is buried
A soldier stands guard
And a rock is rolled into place
But it's Friday
It is only Friday
Sunday is a comin'!

Mr. T's decades of work in the field of pitying fools is unparalleled. He sat down with Conan recently and explained that, "I pity the fool" actually has roots in the Bible.

If you watch Dancing with the Stars you already know the sad news. Mr. T and his partner, Kym Herjavec have been booted off... oh, ummm, I mean eliminated from the show. His waltz to "Amazing Grace" is a fitting final performance for the actor and cultural icon who is known to be vocal about his Christian faith. He's also not shy about pitying fools. T was on Conan recently where he explained the origin of, "I pity the fool".
The tongue of the wise pours out knowledge, but the mouth of fools spews folly.
Proverbs 15:2
I don't know what I'd do if I ever met Mr. T. Maybe I'd ask him (politely) to repeat his catchphrase or some iconic movie line. I'll tell you what I won't do: spew folly as the risk of being just another fool pitied by Mr. T.

Today, our playlist grew by two! Get the scoop on our new adds here.

Another Friday, another batch of new music for your listening pleasure here on Spirit FM! This week we added "Oh My Soul" by Casting Crowns and "Nowhere" by Sarah Reeves.

You may be familiar with the name, Sarah Reeves. Her songs "Sweet Sweet Sound", "Come Save", and "Lamb of God" saw significant airplay on stations across the country a few years ago. After focusing for a time on writing songs for other artists, she's back on the scene as a performer with her latest single, "Nowhere". Oh, make sure to check out her pretty extensive collection of covers on YouTube... yeah, she's pretty talented.

In early 2015, Mark Hall, the lead singer of Casting Crowns, was diagnosed with cancer. What God taught him in the midst of his struggle with the diagnosis and disease is at the heart of "Oh My Soul".
"...the song is really an argument with myself. I'm speaking truth to myself. The roots of my faith are talking to the storm in my life..."

Well, that's all for now. Check the blog every week for a closer look at the new additions to our playlist. Later, music lovers!
